Friction Carry Idler:
Located on the carry side (top side) of the conveyor belt where material is transported.
The “friction” here often refers to the rubber-coated or grooved lagging on the idler rolls, which increases traction between the belt and idler, preventing belt slip and helping with drive traction in some configurations.
Friction Return Idler:
Located on the return side (bottom side) of the belt.
Rubber-coated or grooved to clean the belt and prevent material buildup, reduce wear, and sometimes aid in belt training.
Self-Aligning:
The idler has a pivoting mechanism (often with training rolls or a pivoting frame) that automatically adjusts to correct minor belt misalignment. This prevents belt edge damage, spillage, and excessive wear.
